Many people misread the signs of dryer vent issues as larger mechanical problems with the appliance. If your dryer is not working properly it’s more likely that you need a Dryer Vent Wizard than an appliance repair mechanic.
Clean Out Your Vents, Not Your Wallet
A dryer that doesn’t function well doesn’t usually need to be replaced or fixed. Buying a new dryer or calling an appliance repair service can be expensive. If the source of your dryer problem is a clogged vent or improperly installed ventilation system, there is no need to spend hundreds of dollars replacing or repairing the machine. Even if your dryer is an older model, it is more probable that you need vent cleaning than machine repair. Oftentimes, people will spend money consulting an appliance repair service just to be told that they need to call a dryer vent service instead. By recognizing the signs of a clogged dryer vent, you can save time and money by addressing the source of the problem first.
Signs of a Dryer Vent Problem
The most common complaints about dryer function are likely to be a result of a clogged or improperly installed dryer vent. The following issues may indicate that your dryer problem should be addressed by a Wizard:
-Extended Drying Time - Excess lint or other blockage in your dryer vent can cause your clothes to take an abnormal amount of time to dry. If an hour long drying cycle is not drying your clothes completely, it is probably a clogged vent.
-Overheating - If your clothing comes out of the dryer very hot, or if the machine itself is hot while running, this can be a sign of a clogged vent. Excessive heat can cause some machines to shut off automatically. If this happens to your dryer, you should call a Wizard and have your vent assessed before continuing use.
-No Lint on Lint Screen/Excess Lint in Dryer - If your dryer vent is blocked, the blockage can impede airflow from leaving the machine. This means the lint from your clothes will be stuck in the machine and on your clothes instead of being blown out and onto the lint screen.
-Moldy Smell - If the moisture and heat is not leaving your dryer due to a clogged vent, it can cause mold and bacteria to grow inside your dryer and on your clothes.
Save Your Clothes, Money, Home, and Life!
Continued use of a dryer with a clogged vent can cause serious damage to your home, health, and property. There are many possible consequences of not properly maintaining your dryer vents:
-Fire - Over 15,500 dryer fires are started every year causing approximately 35 deaths, 430 injuries, and $209,000,000 in property damage. Cleaning your dryer vents is the best way to prevent dryer fires.
-Mold - The warm, damp environment of a dryer with a blocked vent is the perfect home for mold. Once mold begins to grow in your dryer, it can spread throughout your home and on your clothing.
-Carbon Monoxide Poisoning - Dangerous fumes released by gas dryers that have no means of escape because of a blocked dryer vent will be trapped in your home.
-Excess Clothing and Dryer Wear - If your vent is clogged, it is likely that you’ll have to dry your clothes using an extended or even additional cycle. This extra time can equate to extra wear to your clothing like pilling, thinning, or tearing, and cause additional wear to the dryer.
-Increased Utility Usage - The extra time it takes you to dry clothes when a vent is blocked can also be apparent on your utility bills. If you need to dry your clothes for twice as long, you’ll pay twice as much as you would for the energy or gas your dryer should use.
